Note on the ZSE and its Patron

The history of the Economic Schools Complex (Zespół Szkół Ekonomicznych) in Nowy Sącz dates back to 1926 when, by the decision of the City Council of Nowy Sącz, a Private Three-Year Commercial School was established. For nearly 10 years, the institution did not have its own building (headquarters). The building was completed at the turn of 1935 and 1936, and at the beginning of 1936, students began their education in a very modern school for those times, designed by engineer Zenon Remi.

It was then that the school’s name was changed, transforming it into a Merchant Gymnasium. The outbreak of World War II hindered the successful development of the school, and in 1944, it was closed by the decision of the occupying authorities.

In the post-war period, education at the school was almost immediately resumed after the liberation of Nowy Sącz. In 1946, the school was nationalized, transformed into a State Commercial Gymnasium, and a 2-year State Commercial High School was established.

In the 1950s, two new departments were created in the school: the Financial Technical School and the Postal Technical School, while in the 1960s, a 3-year Technical School of Economics for Working Students was established.

In the 1976/77 school year, by the decision of the Education and Upbringing Curatorium in Nowy Sącz, the Economic Schools Complex was established, consisting of an Economic High School, a Vocational High School, an Economic High School for Working Students, a Post-secondary Vocational School, and a Basic Vocational School. In 1989, a new school was established within the Economic Schools Complex in Nowy Sącz – the Third General Education High School.

Our school’s patron is Władysław Grabski, a distinguished Polish politician, economist, Minister of Treasury, and twice Prime Minister of the Second Polish Republic. The author of the monetary reform, he is an absolutely exceptional figure, the father of the Polish złoty. Władysław Grabski is a great Pole, highly meritorious to the young Polish state. An excellent role model to emulate and the best patron for an economic school, for our 'Economist’, which, as we proudly emphasize, is one of the best and most recognizable secondary schools in the Sądecczyzna region. It is both a school with traditions, to which generations of residents of Nowy Sącz have been attending for decades, and a modernly equipped institution that attracts ambitious and hard-working young people.
